About Us

Walker Funeral Service has remained a family business for over 70 years. Walker first opened in 1939 as Thorton Funeral Home. Later, it was purchased by the Roesch family, renamed Roesch Funeral Chapel, and in 1951 moved to 400 N. Broadway. The Roesch family operated the chapel until 1971, when it was purchased by the Walker family, and renamed Roesch-Walker Funeral Chapel. In the mid-'90s the Walkers realized they were outgrowing their location. So, they began to make plans to build a new funeral home. In 2002, all of the planning finally came together. The new facility opened in December at the corner of 45th and Union. Along with the move came a new name, Walker Funeral Service.

In May 2021, the funeral home was purchased by Mark Riley, his wife Erin Riley and their close friend Jamie Reed. In response to consumer preferences, the business was renamed Walker Funeral & Cremation Service. Mark, Erin, and Jamie's approach to caring for the bereaved includes the highest level of customer service and premier hospitality during a unique time of transition. Families need competent and compassionate professionals to listen to their wishes, fully explain the many options available, and provide guidance to ensure all details are tended to and events run smoothly. Let our team provide a beautiful and professionally run ceremony to celebrate the memory of your loved one.
