Lorece Wanda Mays

Earlsboro resident Lorece Mays, 97, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at her home.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Walker Funeral Chapel with Donnie Knight officiating.

Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.

She was born April 19, 1923 in Stonewall, Oklahoma to Roy and Lola Shumard. She attended school in Atoka. On September 29, 1941, she married Ralph L. Mays and she spent most of her life as a homemaker and helped run the ranch and cattle, and during WWII, she worked as a welder. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking big breakfast on Saturdays and sitting on the back porch enjoying the view on the hill. She enjoyed fishing, camping, picking berries and pecans, loved to crochet and do plastic canvas. The last few years of her life she enjoyed spending her days with Doug, Jennifer, and Emersyn either feeding the fish in the ponds, doing puzzles, and going to the flower nurseries to get flowers for her many flowerbeds. She was always smiling, laughing and enjoying life.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Lola Shumard, husband, Ralph L. Mays, siblings, Jim Shumard, Leonard Shumard, and Imogean Smith, 2 daughters, Pamela Mays and Glynda Carter, 1 grandchild, 2 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Survivors include her Son: Jerry Mays and wife Paula of Earlsboro, 1 sister: Wanelle Wasson of CA, grandchildren: Sheila Ross of Cabot, AR, Shirlene Burnett of Cushing, OK, Steven Carter of Shawnee, Lisa Mays, Angelia Rutherford and husband Bob of Edmond, Lori Rogers and husband Keith of Dale, Doug, Jennifer, Hunter and Emersyn Mays of the home, great-grandchildren: Paula Wano of Bowlegs, Christy Ross of Andrews, TX, Richard Petty of Bebe, AR, Mabel Petty of Ward, AR, Barbara Burger and husband Leroy of Prague, David Rowe of Shawnee, Thomas Burnett of Sallisaw, Vicci Baize and husband Eric of Cushing, John Burnett of Prague, Bryce Rogers of Earlsboro, Gavyn Rogers of Earlsboro, Cole, Courtney, and Remy Mays of Seminole, 23 great-great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-great-grandchildren, And numerous other family and friends.

Doug and Jennifer would like to say “thank you” to Heartland Hospice for their exceptional care for grandma during the final weeks of her life.
