William (Bill) D. and Lois Lanagan welcomed William Dan Lanagan, Jr. into this world on May 21, 1952 in Odessa, Texas. Dan graduated from William Henry Harrison High School in Evansville, Indiana in 1970. Dan was always ahead of his time and took a gap year to visit relatives and explore California shortly after completing high school. He enjoyed various hobbies and pursuits in his lifetime. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, photography, golf, snow and jet skiing.
Dan eventually found his way from California back to Indiana and then to Shawnee, Oklahoma. He worked for B&B Sales in Oklahoma City, selling building materials. In true Oklahoma fashion, he did a stint in the oil patch as a mud engineer (or drilling fluids engineer) for Milchem. After an oil bust, he ultimately decided to return to school to pursue his education with the hope of getting a real job.
Dan attended Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech in Shawnee, where he received certificates in Heat & Air and Electronics. Dan continued to work while advancing his education. He subsequently earned an Associate of Science degree in Engineering from Rose State University in Midwest City. In 1993, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.
Dan began his professional career working for System Research Laboratories in 1994 at Tinker Air Force Base. He worked for three years providing software and hardware support for the eddy current robotic inspection system. He was rewarded for his hard work and accepted a United States Air Force civil service Professional Electronics Engineer position in support of the E-3 radar software program in 1996. Dan spent the majority of his civilian 21-year career as a system administrator. During his last few years at Tinker, he worked in cybersecurity.
Dan enjoyed good health throughout his lifetime. However, during the last few years, he faced challenging health problems until his passing on March 25, 2025. The family is planning a memorial service to celebrate his life. The memorial date is pending.
