Vivian Lee Cross

March 11, 1943 — November 25, 2020

Vivian Lee Cross, 77, of Shawnee, passed away Wednesday, November 25, at her home. Vivian, the daughter of William and Bernice (Whitten) Donaldson, was born March 11, 1943 in Passaic, New Jersey. She graduated high school at Snow Hill, Maryland with the class of 1961. On August 17, 1963, she married Jim Cross, in Norfolk, Virginia. She worked as a nurse’s aide before entering a business with two of her best friends. Together the three operated Rapid Clean, a private residence cleaning service. Vivian was also the custodian at Central Church of Christ in Shawnee for many years. She was also a devoted Sunday School teacher. Vivian was very active, she enjoyed doing crafts, and listening to music. She was a wonderful cook, particularly baking breads. She loved the Christmas season, during the holidays her house was decorated with Christmas décor throughout. Vivian was a compassionate person, whether it was sitting with a friend who’d lost a loved one, or tending to a hurt animal, particularly those animals that “just followed her home”.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and one brother; and a stillborn son, Michael.

Vivian is survived by her husband, Jim, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Wendell Averitt, of Norman, and Kelly and Andy Ward of Enid; grandchildren, Brandon James and his wife Sammie, Chandra Fawn, Holly Lynn, and April Renee; 12 great grandchildren; and other close family and friends.

The Cross family will be available for visitation, Monday, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Walker Funeral Service. Services will be Tuesday, December 1, at 10:00 AM at Walker Funeral Service, with Dwyane Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee.
