Thomas was born on August 29th, 1939 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Samuel and Estelle Hooton. Not long after his birth, the family moved to Phoenix. Most of his childhood was spent there and his advanced talent for math was highlighted as a high school student. He left Phoenix to attend CalTech, but eventually returned to Arizona State University where he ultimately earned his Doctorate in Electrical Engineering. His career led him to many places and he retired from Texas Instruments in 2003. Thomas met and married his first wife Betty Lou in the mid 1960's. They made their home in the Dallas area before her passing in 1998. After Betty Lou's death, Thomas became acquainted with Roberta King. They were married in 2001 in Shawnee. They enjoyed their time in Oklahoma immensely before Roberta passed away in 2019. Throughout his time in the Shawnee area, Thomas attended the Dale Church of Christ. He was also a proud member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Thomas was a quiet, brilliant man. He spent much time reading, especially his bible, but he also enjoyed reading science fiction. Additionally, computers were one of his pursuits. Thomas had computers in his home since the early 1980's and loved the advancements they'd made through the years. He created a website that he was very proud of: www.bibleversegames.com

Survivors include his son David Hooton of Shawnee, step children: Rick Ham and wife Ramona of Norman, Ron Ham and wife Susan of Shawnee, Rita Ham of Shawnee, Sharla Lee and husband Victor of Dale and Paula Ramsey of Dale, grandson Roland Hooton.
