Teresa Louise Smith

Teresa Louise Smith, resident of Shawnee, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. She was 68 years old. Teresa was born on January 6, 1958, in National City, California to Nellie Louise (Garcia) Akers and Irl James Meade.

Teresa always prided herself in being a hard worker and had a varied career history. Over the years she worked at TDK, Mission Hill Hospital, she owned the Lucky Lady bar on Main Street for a time, she worked as a personal caregiver and later worked at Lowe’s.

Teresa’s love-language was acts of service (although she would never have admitted that out loud). She loved to cook and feed her family and when she saw a need she filled it without being asked or wanting anyone to acknowledge how special she was in doing it. She and her husband loved traveling as much as they could and they especially loved their trips to Mexico over the years. She was a caregiver at heart and took pride in caring for her husband for the past 19 years after an accident that left him unable to do so.

Teresa was preceded in death by her daughter, Ronnie Gwendolyn Campbell, brother, Jay Irl Meade, and father, Irl James Meade.

Those left to cherish her memory are husband, Jackie Lawayne Smith; her mother, Nellie Akers and husband Cary; brothers, Dennis Meade and Kenneth Meade; daughter, Brandy Nicole Parsons and husband Bo; son, Seth Irl McDonnell and wife Cassie; daughter, Mary-Beth Smith; grandchildren, Olivia Makenzie McDonnell, Kaige Mason McDonnell, Cole Xavier Parsons, Jameson Paul Veitenheimer, and Kenzie Nicole Grace Veitenheimer, great-grandson, Maverick Lucas McDonnell, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A private graveside ceremony was held for Teresa at Calvary Cemetery.
