Steven R Guin

May 7, 1949 — October 16, 2017

Steven R. Guin passed away at 12:02 AM on Monday, October 16, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. He died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Jenks, Oklahoma. Steve was born in Shawnee to Herman R. Guin and Ruth (Aylor) Guin. A lifelong and loyal Shawnee resident, Steve begrudgingly moved to Jenks to be closer to his daughter Callie and son-in-law Tanner Rush, so that they could assist in his cancer treatment. He also got a pool table out of the deal, which resulted in many delightful hours of proving that a 68-year-old man with rectal cancer could still whip the rear-end of everyone around him.

Steve graduated from Shawnee High School as part of the Class of 1967. He went on to have a varied and fulfilling career; working as a mechanic at Norton Chevrolet, a journey-man welder at Tinker Air Force base, a small business owner with Colorado Kool-Aid Company, and finally as the jeweler at Guin’s Jewelry. None of these compared to his favorite and most esteemed occupation: Father. Steve retired young and spent many years indulging his hobbies of fixing what needed to be fixed, telling what needed to be told, and doing what needed to be done.

A faithful member of the Church of Christ; Steve took the Fifth Commandment to heart by spending many years caring for his Mother and Father, even to the detriment of his own health. Steve could often be found eating with friends, clad in his favorite overalls, at the Sunny Side Up restaurant. He ate slow, but he paid quick; you had to be fast if you wanted to get the check before he bought your meal.

Steve is survived by his son John Guin, daughter Stefani Burton, daughter Callie Rush, and numerous grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Ruth, and his first wife Karla Guin.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Walker Funeral Service on Thursday, October 19th. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 20th at Walker Funeral Service. Steve will be laid to rest at the Resthaven Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be made to the Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute’s “Oklahoma Cancer Specialists Cares Fund”, which provides financial support to cancer patients who are uninsured. The family please requests no flowers.

A special thank you to the Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute and St. John’s Hospice for their loving care and support.
