Ruby Eloise (Bruno) Withrow

Ruby Eloise (Bruno) Withrow, age 87 of Shawnee died Sunday, November 14, 2021 in a local hospital. Services have been set for Friday, November 19, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. in Walker Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery Southeast of Tecumseh on E1265 Road. Delbert McCurley will be officiating. Ruby was born April 10, 1934 in Concho, Oklahoma to Johnny B. and Beatrice (Casteel) Bruno. She attended Ellinwood Kansas High School, Barton County Community College, University of Oklahoma Bachelors degree in nursing, University of Oklahoma Masters degree in Public Health. She was a registered nurse including Surgery Supervisor and director of nursing at Carl Albert Indian Hospital in Ada, Oklahoma. She married Darold Withrow in 1952 and divorced in1973. She was a Potawatomi tribal elder, Potawatomi language teacher; working with her cousin Leon Bruno they were avid geneology researchers, looking into mismanagement of Native American Funds and were featured on a 60 minute segment. When she returned to further her education in her 50's, she received the award for the oldest student and the OU Native American student of the year award. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sisters: Mildred, Bobby, Dorthy, Jenny and Brother: J. B.; and her former spouse Darold Withrow. Survived by her children: Dana Dickson, Carol & Ike Roberts, Kathy & Paul Schunemann and Mark & Joanne Withrow. 9 Grandkids, 13 Great Grandkids, 2 Great Great Grandkids; Sister Teresa and Numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
