Emblem

Roy "Eddy" Edward Lucas, Sr. was born on October 23, 1929, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Joseph and Vernia Lucas. Roy's long and fulfilling life spanned nearly a century, during which he touched the hearts of many with his dedication, kindness, and steadfast commitment to both family and community.

Growing up as the child of landscapers, Roy developed an early appreciation for nature. This upbringing fostered a remarkable knowledge of plants and trees—he could identify a vast array of species with ease, a skill that brought him joy throughout his life and left a deep impression on those who knew him.

After serving honorably in the Army with 2 tours of duty in Korea, Roy returned home and established a career at Tinker Airforce Base. His work ethic and dedication were widely respected, and he remained devoted to his role for over 30 years until his retirement, earning the admiration of colleagues and friends alike.

Roy’s personal pursuits reflected the same passion and curiosity he applied in his professional life. He was an avid gardener, and his gardens were always places of beauty and peace. His skilled hands found purpose in woodworking projects, and his curiosity led him to the careful tending of bees as a beekeeper. Roy also cherished moments of relaxation, often enjoying classic westerns and old war movies that reminded him of different eras and adventures.

A devoted mentor, Roy served as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, guiding young boys and instilling in them values of resilience, respect, and responsibility. His leadership helped shape countless lives, and his impact will be felt for generations.

Roy is survived by his son, Larry Lucas and wife Nancy of Shawnee, son Dr. Roy Lucas, Jr. and wife Veda of Harlan, KY, daughter Judy Martin and husband Danny of Shawnee, brother Elmer Lucas and wife Brenda of Choctaw, sister-in-law Patricia Huckabay of Shawnee, as well as 8 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley, as well as his parents and brothers: Robert Lucas, Clarence Lucas, Earl Lucas, and Jimmy Lucas, and daughter-in-law Roberta Lucas.

Roy "Eddy" Edward Lucas, Sr. will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who were fortunate to have shared in his journey. He leaves a legacy of service, craftsmanship, and a profound connection to the natural world. May his memory be cherished always.
