On Wednesday, August 28, 2019, Robert L. Williams, loving husband, father and grandfather, peacefully passed away at the age of 85. Robert was born on July 21, 1934 in Sulphur, OK to Oscar and Ida Mae (Johnson) Williams. He attended Sulphur High School and served with the US Army in the Korean War. After returning home, he worked in the oil field throughout the Midwest. On September 6, 1955 in Rapid City, SD, he married Darla Rae Walls. Together they raised one daughter, Debra and one son, Robert. Bob was always confident and sure of what he wanted in life. During his lifetime, he owned and operated several local businesses including the first convenient store in Newcastle, several community banks, Williams Farms and Robert Williams Investments. He was also a 33rd degree Mason. Bob had a passion for racing and breeding thoroughbred horses. He also loved spending time at his lake house in Hot Springs, AR. Whether it was spending holidays there or driving the boat while his grandkids water-skied behind him, he was at his happiest. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife Darla, his children and their spouses, Debbie and Bill Brown and Bobby and Gail (Jindra); his grandchildren and their spouses, Amie (Brown) and Chad Hodges, Amanda (Brown) and Aaron McDonald, Amber (Williams) and Shawn Smith, Brian and Chelsie (Rhynes); and his nine great-grandchildren, Andrew, Abigail, Addison, Emily, Camden, Caroline, Viviane, Mackenzie, and Cora; plus numerous extended family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 11 o’clock in the chapel of Walker Funeral Service in Shawnee. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
