Reginald Ashley, affectionately known as "Rick," passed away on October 11, 2025, in his hometown of Shawnee, Oklahoma, at the age of 76. Born on May 18, 1949, Rick dedicated a significant part of his life to serving his country and embracing the joys of family.
Rick began his career as an over-the-road trucker, continuing this path for 30 years following his honorable discharge from the United States Marines. As a proud member of the military, he served for four years, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal. His service included time as a Radioman during the Vietnam War, where he exhibited remarkable bravery, earning several accolades including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Combat Medal.
Beyond his storied professional life, Rick held deep appreciation for his family. In December, he would have celebrated 43 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Laveta "Lolly" Ashley. Together they nurtured a family that includes their children: Chandra Cox, Chelby Edmonds, Dariel Ashley, Enrique Ashley, Crystal Grant Lowe, Rick Ashley and Audrey Lee. He cherished the roles of grandfather and great-grandfather, leaving behind a legacy of twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren, all whom he loved "with all his whole heart."
Rick is preceded in death by his father, Leroy Ashley; mother, Rose Davis; and his siblings, Leon Gokey, Darrell Gokey, Claude B. Davis, Flora "Chicken" Davis and Gale Davis. His family and friends will remember him not only for his service and hard work but also for the love and pride he had for his family, which remained at the core of his existence.
A burial service will take place on October 15, 2025, at 7:00 AM at Wakolee Cemetery in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Rick Ashley's life exemplifies a commitment to service, family, and love, and he will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
