Nelson “Nelly” Keith McGuire, age 71, passed away July 15, 2025 at his home in Shawnee, Oklahoma surrounded by his loved ones. He was born January 25, 1954 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Wayne Lloyd and Bernadean Lucille McGuire.
Nelson attended Shawnee Public Schools throughout his childhood. There he played basketball and remained undefeated most years. Nelson worked for Smith House Moving as a house mover; Turner Brothers and Exter in the oil field; and with his brothers driving semi trucks across the country. Nelson made a career as a mason where he started with the union. After the union he and his son, Wayne, started their own business - McGuire Masonry.
Nelson and Mary have been together since 1975. A few years later they welcomed their baby boy, Wayne. Nelson enjoyed spending his time playing dominoes with friends, building and running dirt track cars, fishing, playing baseball, playing pool, attending Nascar races, and watching his kid and grandkids sporting events. He was awarded the Most Supportive Parent plaque in Waynes 7th and 8th grade years for basketball.
Nelson is survived by his wife, Mary McGuire of Shawnee, Oklahoma; son and daughter-in-love, Wayne and Kristie McGuire of Shawnee, Oklahoma; his beloved dogs, Lilly, Cody and Ace; stepchildren, Tammy Wilkerson of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Kelly and Krista Call of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Lisa and Larry Blanchard of Norman, Oklahoma, Kimberly Crow and Eric Anderson of Traverse City, Michigan; grandkids, Kye McGuire and Molly Feeney of Norman, Oklahoma, Kelsey and Matthew Mullings of Macomb, Oklahoma, Kasi and Garrett Norman of Norman, Oklahoma; great-grandkids, Karson and Madilyn Mullings of Macomb, Oklahoma; sister, Glenna Parker of Shawnee, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nelson is preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Bernadean McGuire; brothers, Wayne McGuire and Dennis McGuire; his uncle Delbert and aunt Bell Langloss, his aunt Sarah and uncle Gene Taber.
A viewing will be held at Walker Funeral Home from 5pm to 7pm on Monday July 21, 2025. His funeral service is on Tuesday July 22, 2025 at Sharon Baptist Church at 10am. Officiated by Clint Dawkins. A family meal will follow after the service.
