Margaret "Maggie" McGowan

October 4, 1974 — December 8, 2020

Margaret “Maggie” Elizabeth McGowan, age 46, passed from this life to her eternal home on December 8th, 2020, at her home in SE Oklahoma City. She was born on October 4th, 1974 to Bill and Rebekah (Briggs) McGowan of Shawnee, Oklahoma; the eldest of three children.

Maggie was a graduate of Shawnee High School and a proud graduate from the University of Oklahoma, earning her Bachelor of Science in Zoology, accompanied by a minor in sociology. She then continued on to earn her Master of Science in Sports Management.

Maggie worked undoubtedly hard at whatever she put her mind to; providing the right amount of determination, patience and heart to provide a job well done. Maggie built her career with the University of Oklahoma, with over 20 years of experience in major event planning and project coordination, specializing in large conference organization and management. If there was a problem, Maggie was the girl to fix it. She loved to travel and all aspects of life, but nothing compared to the love she had for her family and OU sports.

An avid sports enthusiast, Maggie was always ready and willing to cheer her Sooners on to victory. She deeply loved her family and dedicated her time and devotion so well to all who knew her. She loved her family so well, and the love her entire family has for her is equally matched.

Maggie is proceeded in death by her father, Bill McGowan; grandmother, Betty Briggs; aunt, Vicki Duff; great-uncle and great- aunt, Bill and Mona Cleek; and cousin, Randy Cleek.

She is survived by her mother, Rebekah (Becky) McGowan; her two brothers, Andrew McGowan and Matthew McGowan; half-brother, Sean Lewis; aunt, Jane (Jerry) Gay; uncle, Bob (Karen) McGowan; uncle, Jerry Duff; cousin, Patrick Duff and family; cousin, Julie Duff Talton and family; cousin, Terri (Don) Santiago and family.

Celebration of Life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 21 at Walker Funeral Service Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Maggie’s honor can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (www.mymssa.org).
