Les Godwin

Leslie “Les” Godwin, 81, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, entered his Heavenly home on August 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in McLoud, Oklahoma, to Albert and Nellie Godwin, Les grew up with a strong work ethic, a generous heart, and a gift for bringing joy to those around him.

Les graduated from McLoud High School and built a life that reflected what mattered most to him — faith, family, hard work, and kindness. He married the love of his life, Sandy, and together they shared decades of laughter, challenges, and triumphs, raising two children they adored: Chantel Andrews and Scott Godwin. His greatest pride was his family, especially his grandchildren — Nicole Palmer, Brandon Sellars, Avery Sellars, Liam Godwin, and Lane Godwin — and his great-grandchildren — Kevin Tyner, Kenan Tyner, Amiyah Briones, and Imani Harrison — who each held a special place in his heart.

Les found his joy outdoors. Whether racing stock cars, hunting, fishing, or adding to his gun collection, he embraced life with energy and enthusiasm. He loved doing tractor work, could fix just about anything you put in front of him, and never hesitated to drop what he was doing to help a neighbor or friend. His teasing humor, contagious laugh, quick smile, and easy conversation had a way of making strangers feel like family.

Les was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sandy, granddaughter Ella Godwin, his parents, and all of his siblings. Though our hearts ache with loss, we are comforted knowing he is reunited with his loved ones in Heaven — probably talking about past memories, sharing that warm smile, and making everyone laugh once again.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Walker Funeral & Cremation Service on Tuesday, August 12th from 12:00 - 5:00 pm and on Wednesday, August 13th from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. A funeral ceremony for Les will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at the Walker Funeral Chapel with Pastor Mark Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be: Scott Godwin, Liam Godwin, Brandon Sellars, Avery Sellars, Carl Sellars, and Terry Beets.
