Leona "Carol" Brodersen

August 3, 1949 — October 3, 2020

Carol left this life at the age of 71 on Saturday, October 3, 2020, in Shawnee, OK, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 10 at 10:00 am, at Walker Funeral Home in Shawnee.

Carol was born in Oklahoma City to Cora “Anita” Hinson and Ervin Elmo Hinson on August 3, 1949. The family moved to California, where Carol and her brother grew up. Carol graduated from Downey High School in 1967 and went to work for Pacific Telephone. She met and married her husband of nearly 50 years, Dennis Brodersen, on December 12, 1970 in Anaheim, CA. Dennis and Carol shared three daughters. They moved to Pink, OK in 1978 and raised their family.

After working at AT&T for several years, Carol enrolled in the nursing program at Gordon Cooper Technology Center. She was honored with the Florence Nightingale award upon graduation. She later furthered her education, earning an associate’s degree in Nursing from Rose State College in 1999. Carol worked as a registered nurse at Midwest Regional Hospital and later at Children’s Hospital.

Carol suffered a devastating spinal cord injury in 2014 that cut her nursing career short. Though confined to a wheelchair, Carol continued to display grace and determination. Her devotion to the Lord never wavered. She inspired many with her Godly example, humble and generous to a fault. She continued to care for others even when she could no longer care for herself.

Carol is preceded in death by her parents and oldest daughter Pamela (Brodersen) Snider.

She is survived by her husband Dennis Brodersen of Shawnee; son-in-law Blake Snider with grandchildren Ian and Elizabeth; daughter Lysa (Brodersen) Park with grandchildren Eric and Adam; daughter Jennifer (Brodersen) Sharp and son-in-law Brandon, with grandchildren Mallory and Cash; brother Doug Hinson and sister-in-law Renee; and many beloved in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
