Larry Neal Schmitt, Sr

Shawnee resident Larry Neal Schmitt Sr., 76, died on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at his home.

Larry was born September 26, 1943, in Mt. Vernon, Ill., to Harry and Myrtle (Cambell) Schmitt. On April 30, 1966, he married Nora Hand, in Joliet Ill.

Larry proudly served in the US Army for 33 years. Larry was a member of the Shawnee Nazarene Church. An avid outdoorsman, Larry particularly enjoyed hunting and fishing. Larry loved working with his hands, and practiced this as a skilled carpenter. Nothing, however gave him the joy that he received being with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard, Clarence, Leon, David and Wayne; a sister, Barbara Mooney; and three additional brothers, Gene Allison, Bobby Eugene, and Charles Allen who died in infancy.

Larry is survived by his wife, Nora; his children, Larry Jr., Jessie and Regina, Tonya, Robert and Lori, James and Jennifer, Regina, Cynthia, Benjamin, and Michael; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Wendel & Ermgard Schmitt and Carl Schmitt; sister, Joyce Frazier; sister-in-law Phyllis Schmitt; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

Cremation services are under the direction of Walker Funeral Service in Shawnee.
