Jason Leigh Myers

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Jason Leigh Myers, who left us far too soon at the age of 44. Born on October 1, 1981, Jason was a beloved husband to his wife, Hannah Chawngte; a devoted and loving father to his two daughters, Kailani, 19, and Elizabeth, 9; a cherished son of Michelle Mitnik and stepson of James Mitnik; a much cherished son-in-law to Thanhilri Chawngte and Khanindra Talukdar; a caring brother to James Myers and his family; and a loving brother-in-law to Hannah’s sisters and their husbands. He was deeply loved and will be forever missed.

Jason had a lifelong love of travel and learning, with a special connection to India. At just 19 years old, he traveled there to volunteer as an English teacher at a monastery in Kolkata. It was during his time in India that he met Hannah, the love of his life. Together they shared nearly 20 years of marriage filled with adventure, laughter, deep devotion united in their beliefs in the United Pentecostal Church, and unwavering love. Jason was a devoted husband and a doting father who always put his family first. His guidance, kindness, and presence will be treasured always.

A man of integrity, curiosity, and remarkable intelligence, Jason accomplished much in his life. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from Montana State University, followed by a Master of Science in Tropical Plant and Soil Science, specializing in cacao pathology, from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. He later returned to Montana State University to pursue his PhD, focusing his research in the genetics of fatty biosynthesis in Camelina sativa for both industrial and nutritional applications. His work reflected both his passion for science and his dedication to making a meaningful impact.

Hawaiʻi held a special place in Jason’s heart. He found joy and peace in the ocean, particularly body surfing at Sandy Beach, where he felt a profound sense of freedom and happiness. Known for his sharp wit and thoughtful insight, Jason earned the respect and admiration of all who knew him. Yet, above all his achievements, his greatest pride and purpose were his family – his roles as devoted husband and doting father. His life was grounded in love, compassion, and commitment to family.

As a son, Jason brought immeasurable joy, pride, and companionship to his mother. His passing leaves a void that can never be filled in her heart. His kindness, humor, and deep love will live forever on in the hearts of all those who knew him.

Jason will be deeply missed by his mother and stepfather, his wife and daughters, his brother, extended family, and countless friends around the world whose lives were touched by his generosity, warmth, and spirit.

In our hearts, you remain forever, Jason. We love you and miss you more than words can express.

May God hold you in his loving arms eternally.
