Glen Edward Pence

Glen Pence was born in Sterling, Oklahoma, on September 30, 1933, to Thelma and Medaris "Doc" Pence. He grew up in Fletcher, Oklahoma, where he graduated from high school in 1951. As a senior, he felt called to the ministry and began preaching in abandoned schoolhouses. He went to Oklahoma Baptist University, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in ministry in 1955. He spent one year at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, before he met and married Lynda Hobbs in August of 1956. Both of them went back to the seminary, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1958.

Glen preached for 73 years before he retired at the age of 90. He began his church ministry in the following churches: Paradise Valley Baptist Church; First Baptist Church in Washington, Oklahoma for two years; Utah Avenue Baptist Church in Oklahoma City for two years; First Baptist Church in Mountain View Missouri for 4 years; First Baptist Church in Buffalo, Missouri for 10 years; First Baptist Church in Joplin, Missouri for 7 1/2 years where he also had a television ministry; University Baptist Church in Shawnee, Oklahoma for 4 years before Glen began a ministry in psychiatric hospitals. He then became a chaplain at Hospice of Oklahoma County before moving to what became Heartland Hospice of Shawnee. He served there for 20 years while also pastoring the First Christian Church in Seminole, Oklahoma. When that church closed, he became a member of University Baptist Church in Shawnee.

Glen and Lynda had two children. He is survived by Lynda, his wife of 69 years; their son, Ron Pence and his wife Kathy; grandchildren, Austin Pence and Stewart Pence and his partner Shana; their daughter, Jeneane and her wife Laura; grandchildren, JR and Garrett; and brother-in-law, Jimmie Scott and children. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Virginia. 

He will be missed by the many people he served in churches as well as those families he helped through their grief in hospice. His memorial service will be later this year when his family can attend.
