Gary Leon Kasterke

September 30, 1942 — October 27, 2020

Gary Leon Kasterke, 78 of Shawnee died Tuesday, Oct. 27th 2020.

A memorial service will be held at Walker Funeral Service on Saturday, Oct. 31st at 11am, with Pastor Scott Hendry officiating.

Gary was born on Sep. 30th 1942 in Shawnee to Lester & Syble (Rogers) Kasterke. He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1960 and went on to attend college at Oklahoma Baptist University. In 1961 Gary married the love of his life Betty (Denney) Kasterke, and they lived in Shawnee for all of their 59 year marriage.

Gary served in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972 while working a full-time job on a dairy, working part-time for a local car dealer and learning to fly and getting his pilot license. He always had multiple irons in the fire. He eventually started his own car dealership and spent nearly 50 years in the trade. Gary was a Christian and was always active in his church. He had an incredibly generous and giving heart and was always willing to help others. He helped many businesses get off the ground and loved flying his own plane at a moment’s notice for someone in a pinch. He was involved with the “Up with Jesus” program at Liberty Baptist Church for many years. Most recently he was instrumental in helping start a food/clothing pantry ministry called “Grace House” with his fellow members of Grace Church of Shawnee where he served as a Deacon.

During his retirement, you would often find Gary attending one of the many sporting events of his grandkids. If not there, you could rest assured he was tirelessly working another jigsaw puzzle. In his last few years puzzles became a ministry for him and others as he completed and gifted over 250 to various individuals throughout the community.

He loved and was loved by his wife, his children, his nine granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents Lester & Syble Kasterke, sister Ethel Kasterke Black and his brother Richard Kasterke.

Survivors include his wife Betty Kasterke of Shawnee, daughter & son-in-law Steve & Lauri Kasterke Fluke of Shawnee, son Brady Kasterke of Shawnee, son & daughter-in-law Jeff & Darla Kasterke of Shawnee, son & daughter-in-law Lester & Cami Kasterke of Owasso.
