Fern Della Barrett

Shawnee resident Fern Barrett, 94, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at a local hospital. Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 24, 2022 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Kris Steele and Gary Dowdy officiating. Fern was born February 13, 1928 in El Dorado, KS to Bert Daniel Ratcliff and Lilly Thomas Jefferson (Gordon) Ratcliff. She graduated from high school in 1946 and married Jack Barrett, Sr. Fern had worked at Tiffany’s, Humpty Dumpty’s, Brannon’s IGA, and retired from Sam’s Club in 1996 as a Cashier Supervisor. She was active in the Elks Club where she was a member of the Ladies Golf Association for many years. She also volunteered with the Voter Registration and Census Bureau. She enjoyed golfing, traveling, camping, square dancing, and trying new café’s and restaurants. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 brothers: Bill and Richard, 4 sisters: Violet, Pat, Rose, and Daisy. Survivors include 4 children: Jack Barrett Jr. and wife Betty of Shawnee, John Barrett and wife Kathy of Meeker, Jeff Barrett and wife Barbara of Shawnee, and Janet Scott and husband Curtis of White Oak, TX, 8 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
