Edward Hurt III

Edward “Eddie” Hurt III, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 25, 2019.  Eddie was born on March 7, 1941, in Shawnee to Eddie Jr. and Francis Lucille (Harris) Hurt.  He graduated from White Station High School in Memphis, Tennessee, with the class of 1959, he then went to Oklahoma Baptist University.  Eddie completed his education at California Baptist College in Riverside California.  Eddie married Donna Gayle Horton on June 4, 1961 in Shawnee.  Over the years Eddie split his time between education and law enforcement.  He was a schoolteacher, coached basketball at California Baptist College, worked as a probation officer and a deputy sheriff.  He was a sports enthusiast and he particularly loved OU football.  He also enjoyed cars and motorcycles.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Eddie is survived by his wife; Gayle Hurt of the home, daughters and sons-in-law; Donna and Danny Peters of Riverside Ca, Terri and Nathan Hicks of Riverside Ca, and Venetia Fornea of Riverside, grandchildren; Zachary Peters, Mitchell Peters, Shannon Hicks, Alison Hicks, Katherine Hicks, Alexa Barredo and Cole Barredo, sister and brother-in-law; Martha and Ben Bryant of Memphis, Tennessee and a host of family and friends.

There will be a visitation Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Walker Funeral Service.  Funeral services will be Friday, March 29, 2019, at 2:00 PM at Shawnee First Baptist Church.  Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Eddie Hurt Athletic Scholarship Fund at OBU.
