Edna Ruth Sadler

Edna Ruth (Griggs) Sadler died Sunday, November 4, 2018, age 88, following a massive stroke.Edna was born May 25, 1930 in the old Shawnee City Hospital to W.R. (William Roy “Red”) Griggs and Edith Myrtle (Jackson) Griggs. She attended Horace Mann Elementary School as did all three of her children. She attended Shawnee Junior High and High School graduating in 1948. In May 1949, Edna married Roy Harlan Sadler. They had three children: Stephen Roy (1952), William Keith (1956) and Janet Ann (1960). Enda worked at Anthony’s, Sylvania/Thiokol, and for many years had a business as a seamstress/costumer. She was active at various times in Cub Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, PTA, Band Parents, SARC serving on the Angel Acres Board of Directors, Project Safe, and Operation Christmas. She was a member of the Pottawatomie Genealogy Club, Santa Fe Historical Society, Eastern Star, and Shawnee AARP 2654. She was raised in the Christian Church that became the Faith Community Church. Edna was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved older sister Barbara Ann Griggs, as well as her husband Roy.She is survived by her son Stephen Roy Sadler and his wife MaryRuth (Hatley) Sadler of North Potomac, MD, her son (William) Keith Sadler who was her caregiver, her daughter Janet Akers of Cummings, GA, and her grandson Jason Hatley Sadler and his wife Tara Garwood of Olney, MD.Following Edna’s explicit instruction, a simple, brief closed casket service will be held Saturday, November 10 at 10:00 A.M. at Walker Funeral Service Chapel followed by a private burial at Fairview Cemetery next to her husband Roy.
