Doris Jean Scroggins

Doris Jean Scroggins, age 87, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in Shawnee, OK.  She was born May 11, 1935, in Tecumseh, OK to Roy and Juanita (Wisdom) Hogan.  Doris graduated from Tecumseh High School and Draughn Business School.  She was school secretary for the Shawnee Public School system for thirty-three plus years:  Wilson Elementary, Will Rogers Elementary, and Sequoyah Elementary schools.  

Doris' first husband, John Coats, was killed in the tornado that hit Shawnee in 1970.  On August 19, 1980, she married Frank Scroggins.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Jr. Service League, and Alpha Mother's Club.  Her family was the light of her life. She loved following her grandchildren and watching them golf, play sports, and all of their activities.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Juanita Hogan and husbands, John Coats, and Frank Scroggins.

She is survived by her children, Molly (Jimmy) Fincher, Sally (Jimmie) Brownell, and Jeff (Marilyn) Scroggins; grandchildren, Brooke (Eric) Vandeventer, Baylee (Andy) Hammons, Bunky (Danielle) Fincher, John (Heather) Brownell, Katie (Jason) Keck, Lance (Shelley) Howell, Dionne (Matt) Woods; great-grandchildren, Henry, Millie, Ward, Ruthie Mae Hammons, Kelsey Kinnamon, Braden Brownell, Cutter Walker, Jase and Wilson Keck, Nora and Lincoln Fincher, Brody and Easton Vandeventer, Mason and Evan Howell, Elijah and Holden Woods; and great-great-grandchild, Amari Garcia.

A funeral ceremony will be held at Walker Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 11, 2023 with Reverend Scott Schooler officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee, OK.  Visitation with family will be Friday, February 10, 2023 from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM  at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Eric Vandeventer, Andy Hammons, John Brownell, Bunky Fincher, and Jason Keck.
