Lt. Darrell Lee Hatfield, OCPD, Retired, was born December 1st 1949 and passed June 22, 2026. He was born to Jimmy Lee Hatfield and Betty Hatfield in Oklahoma City. He attended Capitol Hill High School, graduating in 1967. In January 1967, He met the woman who would become his wife and lifelong companion, Brenda Lee Coots.
Darrell Joined the United States Marine Corps after High School. Following Basic Training, he received orders and reported to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC. While Darrell was at Camp Lejeune, Brenda rode the bus from Oklahoma City to Jacksonville. They eloped and were married on October 6, 1969.
After completing his service with the Marines, Darrell returned to Oklahoma city where he worked as an iron worker with his father. Darrell was hired by the Oklahoma City Police Department in December 1977, working there until his retirement in February 2003. During his career Darrell served as a patrol officer, supervisor, patrol lieutenant, and property room supervisor. Darrell also was the Fraternal Order of Police Vice-President for lodge 123 for a period of time during which he was responsible for scheduling the National F.O.P. Convention in Oklahoma City in 1989.
Darrell is preceded in death by his father Jimmy Hatfield, mother Betty Hatfield, Brother Jimmy W. Hatfield, and grandson Jacob Thompson.
Survivors include his wife Brenda of the home, daughters Tiffany Pratt and husband Jeff of Oklahoma City, Breonna Rochelle Thompson and husband Bobby of Shawnee; son Jimmy L. Hatfield, II and wife Alice of Oklahoma city, sisters: Tina Jones and husband Chris; Tami Hatfield-Dutton both of Oklahoma City; grandchildren: John Pollard, Brendan Darrell Pratt and wife Destiny, Tyler Pratt, Shelby Churchwell and husband J.J., Ty Thompson, Caitlyn Hatfield, Jimmie L. Hatfield, III and wife Blythe; 9 great grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends and loved ones may pay their respects at the funeral home on Sunday, June 28, 2026 from 12-5pm with the family present to greet friends from 2-4pm. Darrell will be laid to rest at a graveside ceremony with Oklahoma City Police Department Honors to be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 29, 2026, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City with Darrel's son-in-law, Bobby Thompson officiating.
