Cora LaVonne Vail

Shawnee resident Cora Lavonne Vail, a child of God, left her earthly residence and entered her heavenly home on Monday, April 28, 2025 at the age of 97 years. Lavonne was born on December 7, 1927 to Robert Boyd and Alpha Friend in Okemah, Oklahoma. Lavonne attended schools in Shawnee, Oklahoma and Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Her career was spent as a legal secretary, homemaker, mother, Girl Scout leader and Bible teacher. Lavonne was an excellent seamstress and clothing designer. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Shawnee, Oklahoma, where she served in numerous capacities. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Theodore Vail and parents, Robert and Alpha Friend. 

She is survived by her son, Stephen Eugene Vail and wife Leslie of Greeley, Colorado, grandson, Levi Vail and wife Sandra of Eagle River, Alaska, granddaughter, Lauren Vail of Greeley, Colorado, sisters, Bertha Combs Akin and Bobbie Hulsey and spouse Embree Hulsey of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

A funeral ceremony for LaVonne will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Walker Funeral Chapel. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Calvary Cemetery.
