Brenda Gail Ponkilla, a cherished homemaker and devoted matriarch, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026. Born on November 18, 1960, in Pawnee, Oklahoma, Brenda lived a life marked by unwavering strength, boundless love, and a deep commitment to her family and community.
After attending high school, Brenda chose the path of creating a warm and nurturing home where her loved ones could thrive. Her proudest accomplishments were her beloved children and grandchildren, as well as the loving home she lovingly maintained. Known for her strong character and compassionate spirit, she was a loving mother who consistently extended a helping hand to those around her.
Brenda found joy in the simple pleasures of life—she loved spending time outdoors, especially with her children and grandchildren, cultivating her garden, and delighting in cooking for her family. Her days were often filled with laughter and the comfort of family gatherings, where her culinary talents and warm hospitality brought everyone closer together.
She was preceded by her cherished grandmother, Florena Ponkilla; grandfather, Tony Ponkilla; mother, Lorene Ponkilla; father, James Ponkilla; brothers James Jim Ponkilla and Gordon Ponkilla; son Anthony Ponkilla; and daughter Summer Dawn Johnson. Their memories remain woven into the fabric of Brenda’s life and the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Brenda is lovingly remembered by her daughter Crystal G. Ponkilla; son Bobby R. Brilley; daughter Alisha R. Ponkilla; daughter Maia N. Davis; son James W. Ponkilla; son Stanley A. Johnson; son Charles A. Ponkilla; nephews Marshall A. Ponkilla, Jeffrey A. Ponkilla, Brian W. Ponkilla, and Dylan R. Ponkilla; as well as her brother Jeffrey Ponkilla; sister Loretta Ponkilla; and her numerous nieces, and nephews and grandchildren. These family members, and many friends, carry forward Brenda’s legacy of kindness, resilience, and devotion.
A wake will be held on March 27, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Horseshoe Bend Community Building. A graveside service will follow on March 28, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Wakolee Cemetery.
Brenda life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of family bonds. She will be deeply missed yet forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory be a blessing and her spirit find eternal peace.
