Bill J. Weir Billy Jack Weir, age 94 of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully January 18th in Las Vegas, Nevada surrounded by his loved ones. Bill was born May 1, 1928 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Jeff and Grace Weir. He grew up in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School in 1946. It was there he met the love of his life, Mary Sue Haynes. They were married August 6, 1949. They were married 55 years and blessed with two children, Sherry and Chris (Debbe). Bill was a resident of Oklahoma for many years where he worked at Tinker Air Force Base as a Branch Chief in the Procurement area until his retirement in 1977. He was a longtime member of Liberty Baptist Church while living in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Bill and Mary moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1987 to be near their children and grandchildren. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and was blessed with four grandchildren; Jeffrey McElmurry (Silvia) and Julie McElmurry Medina (Vince) of Las Vegas; Garrett Weir (Katie) of Reno, Nevada; and Lauren Weir Parker (Grant) of Oklahoma City. Bill has seven great-grandchildren; Vincent and Mary Medina, and Brooke McElmurry all of Las Vegas; Charlotte and Richard Weir of Reno, Nevada; and Britt and Beckham Parker of Oklahoma City. Bill was proceeded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Mary Sue in 2004, son-in-law Robert McElmurry in 2015, as well as his brother Don Weir in 2020, and sister Mary Baker in 2021. Bill always had an optimistic attitude, loved his family and friends, and was such a smart, happy, contented person. He loved spending time at home with his family just hanging out. He enjoyed sports, especially OU football and the Dallas Cowboys. He was such a role model and set the perfect example for his family as a Christian gentleman and a kindhearted, generous, hardworking person. He was adored by his family and will be deeply missed by many. Bill is survived by his two children, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law Pat Reuter of El Reno, Oklahoma, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He leaves all those who knew him with many wonderful memories. Due to weather, the family will gather at the funeral home at 10:30am on Wednesday, then privately go to Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Shawnee. Burial under the direction of Walker Funeral Home.
