Audrey Allene Walker was born March 2, 1933, to Orville and Audie Deaton in Howe, Oklahoma. She grew up in Howe, graduating from high school in 1951. She later attended Carl Albert State College prior to moving to Oklahoma City and beginning her secretarial career with a local insurance company.
In 1954, she married B.T. Walker, Jr. after his return from service with the U.S. Air Force. They made their home in the Capitol Hill area of Oklahoma City. After some time, she along with their son Doug moved to Howe to live with her parents enabling B.T. to pursue further education at Gupton Jones School of Mortuary Science in Dallas.
When B.T. completed his schooling, the family returned to Oklahoma City where B.T. worked for Capital Hill Funeral Home. In 1957, they moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma. Here, Allene began working as a secretary at the Sylvania plant and B.T. began work at Roesch Brothers Funeral Home. Allene eventually rose to the position of executive secretary to the plant manager, a role she held with dedication until the Sylvania’s closure.
As with many chapters in life, one ending led to another beginning. On the recommendation of Sylvania, she joined Federal National Bank in Shawnee as the Executive Assistant and later Administrative Assistant to Gene Rainbolt – a name many Oklahomans know well. She remained loyal to Mr. Rainbolt for 20 years playing an integral part of the company’s growth and transformation. Federal National Bank, now BancFirst, is currently headquartered in Oklahoma City with over 100 locations across Oklahoma.
Following retirement from BancFirst in 1992, Allene enjoyed many years pursuing interests and engaging with the community. She spent most of her time reading books, taking part in church activities, volunteering at the Salvation Army and at Mabee-Gerrer as a docent. She and her family also spent many weekends making memories at their lake home in Eufala, Oklahoma.
In 2012, Allene and B.T. moved to Village on the Park near their daughter Deann in Oklahoma City. Following B.T.’s death in 2014, she remained at Village on the Park until her passing.
Allene is survived by 3 children: son, Doug Walker and his wife Jenna of Shawnee; daughter, Deann Woods and her husband Robby of Oklahoma City; and daughter Jeanne Walker of Dallas. She also leaves behind 5 grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren, Jonathon Walker and wife Kristie; Chloe Walker, Brielle Walker, Jake Woods and wife Maddie; Rylie Woods, Carly Suttle, and Greyson Suttle.
