Audrey May McRorey

September 14, 1933 — May 27, 2022

It is with profound sadness that the family of Audrey May (O'Rourke) McRorey announces her peaceful passing on May 27, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. She was 88 years old. Audrey was born on September 14, 1933, in Liverpool, England. During World War II, she was a child evacuee to Wales, where she spent six years. After her graduation from secondary school, her career as a seamstress began in a factory where she worked her way up from making belts for raincoats. She immigrated to the United States in 1952, ultimately settling in Oklahoma. There she met and married the love of her life, Tom McRorey, who preceded her in death. Audrey and Tom lived in Durant, OK for many years and she was delighted to discover what felt like a little piece of England in St. John’s Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School, confirmation classes and served on the Altar Guild. She and Tom were very involved with Cursillo where friends met weekly to report on their piety, their study of the bible, and their apostolic action. In the community, Audrey assisted with her daughter’s Bluebird group and also participated in the Newcomers Club, which helped hundreds of women connect with one another. One of Audrey’s favorite activity was playing bridge. When they retired, Audrey and Tom moved to Shawnee, OK where they attended Emmanuel Episcopal Church. Audrey joined the Rose Unit Garden Club and the Sew and Sews. Audrey was equal parts beauty, heart and moxie. She loved to dance and if music played, her foot tapped and her hands clapped. Over some English chocolate and a cup of tea, she would regale friends and family with stories recounting her life experiences and travels. Audrey was a proper, elegant lady who produced exquisite needlework by day and a sports fanatic who would not let time zones interfere with cheering on her favorite European soccer teams. Most of all, she was a steadfast matriarch to her beloved, tight-knit family, including her children’s spouses, who she thought of as her own children. Audrey’s home and arms were always open to her friends and extended family both near and far. The best times were those spent sharing a meal, laughing, reminiscing and cheering on the newest generation, to whom she was a doting Nana. Audrey is lovingly remembered by her three cherished daughters, Maureen Trotter (Steve) of Shawnee, Jennifer McRorey (Leslie Lucas) of Dallas, TX, and Rebecca McRorey of Irving, TX; grandchildren Kim Silverman (Geoff) of Portland, OR, Nick Trotter (Jodi) of Keller, TX, Ian Mc Rorey of Irving, TX, and great-grandchildren Lucas and Landon Trotter and Audrey Silverman, cousin Steve Grogan (Sheng) of CA. Public visitation will take place at Walker Funeral Service from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday June 12th. A private funeral service and interment will follow. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Emmanuel Episcopal Church Youth Ministry Fund – Church Camp, P. O. Box 1905, Shawnee, Ok 74802-1905 or SSM Health Foundation, SSM Shawnee Acute Care, 601 NW 11th St., Oklahoma City, OK 73103
