Arthur James "Cactus" Duggan

Arthur was born July 28, 1936, in Watonga to Calvin and Lizzie Duggan.  On Jan. 24, 1958, he married Peggy Lou Gilman and they resided in Oklahoma City until building a home on an acreage in Deer Creek of Edmond in 1973, where they lived until 2013, moving to Shawnee.  On Feb. 17, 1963, his wife Peggy gave birth to a son which they named Calvin James.

Arthur grew up in Watonga, Oklahoma and played sports and especially enjoyed football from which he got his nickname “Cactus” from a OU football story back in the day.  He graduated from Watonga High School in 1958 and served in the Army Reserves 1959-1964.  Friends and family also called him “Sonny” which was his nickname when growing up.  Cactus began his work career at John A Brown, then the Dept of Human Services, went to a business school and was hired and worked for 40 plus years at Globe Life Insurance Company in Oklahoma City in the data processing department from where he retired.

Cactus was a ‘people’ person and never met a stranger.  He dearly loved all of his family, neighbors, and friends and made a warm positive impact on many lives.  He was all about family the way it was meant to be.  He coached the ‘North Highland Hillbillies’ little league T-ball team, enjoyed playing golf with a metro group called ‘The Fools’ which he cherished, and had an appreciation for all sports and enjoyed OU especially.  He enjoyed his church family and attended Northridge Church of Christ in Shawnee until becoming ill.

He is survived by his son Calvin James Duggan of Shawnee & his fiancé Kelli Kysela; granddaughter, Becky Webb & husband Chad of Harrah; great-grandsons Cord Webb and Luke Webb of Harrah; soon to be granddaughter Peyton Eddy and fiancé Hayden Fuller of Ft. Worth Texas; sister in law Marie Campbell of Anadarko; nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy Lou Duggan; grandparents; sister Dorothy Brewer of Watonga; daughter in law Jody Duggan; uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Graveside services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 1, 2023 at IOOF Cemetery in Watonga Oklahoma under the direction of Walker Funeral Service of Shawnee.  Service will be officiated by Wayne Stephens of Northridge Church of Christ in Shawnee, OK.
