Shawnee resident, Luther “Jay” Buckner, 71, died Wednesday, May 11, 2016 in an Oklahoma City hospital.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2016 in Walker Funeral Service Chapel with Spencer Davis and Wallace Gambler, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Johnson Cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Friday to visit with friends and family.
Jay was born June 1, 1944 in Henryetta, OK, the son of Johnny Daniel Buckner & Lucille (Berryhill) Buckner. He graduated from Haskell Institute in Lawrence, KS and OSU Tech in Okmulgee. During the Vietnam War Jay served in the United States Army. On June 8, 1969 he married June Switch. He was a machinist, worked in bookkeeping and was payroll supervisor with the Creek Nation.
He enjoyed making spiritual calendars for churches, family and friends.
Jay was a member of Forest Creek Mission in Henryetta.
He was preceded in death by His parents, maternal grandparents: John Berryhill and Amy (Randall) Berryhill; brothers: Johnny Buckner, Jr., Paul Bear, & Tim Bear; nephew: Johnny Buckner III, and an infant sister: Georgette Bear
Survivors include his wife: June Buckner of the home; sisters: Rachel Ramirez, Janice Bear, & Georgeann DeLaune – all of Okmulgee; Esther Bell of Shawnee; Janet Bear of Clinton; Marcella & Billy Ray Jones of Broken Bow; and Debbie Bear of Checotah; brothers: Mike Bear of Henryetta, Anthony Bear of Franklin, NC; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Marilyn & Mike Longden of Potwin, KS; Melpherd Switch, Doug & Kathy Switch and George Washington - all of Shawnee; Gary & Suzanne Washington of Crawford, GA; and numerous other relatives and friends.
