Larry Gene Fox, age 76, passed away on Saturday, May 2nd from an extended battle with COPD. Born on April 12th, 1939, Larry is survived by wife Virginia and their two children: son Jem Fox (and his wife Michelle) and daughter Gina Armstrong (and her husband, C.A). He also leaves behind sister Judy Carter (and her husband Dana), and grandchildren Candace Sweatt and Ty Fox, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, along with multiple friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lorena Golden, father Lester Fox, sister Loretta Smith, and brother Jerry Don Fox. Larry was born in Clinton, Oklahoma on April 12th, 1939 to Lester and Lorena Fox. He attended Butler High School in Butler, Oklahoma and later went on to spend a year at Southwestern Oklahoma State University for further schooling. When he was younger, Larry would occasionally be let out of school early with fellow classmates to go pick cotton in the fields. When he entered high school, he joined the school basketball team and became a great basketball player. During his high school years and early adult years, he participated in rodeos, roping and loved riding horses. Some years later, he met the love of his life, Virginia Louise Edmonds, and on October 1st, 1960, they married and began their life together. In the following years, Larry had a number of interesting jobs. He worked for the United States Department of Agriculture surveying land from 1958 to 1972. He helped build the dam at Eufaula Lake. In 1969, he started a successful business, a coin-operated self-serve laundromat and eventually opened a dry cleaners until 1996. The business was a success and lasted for over twenty-six years. In 1997, Larry went into business with his son, Jem, and started their own land surveying business from 1994 – 2001 before deciding to retire. Larry also enjoyed membership to the Masons and the Elk Lodge of Shawnee and was also a member of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce. He loved to travel and spent many times enjoying boating, snow-skiing, camping, and spending time at Lake Eufaula. He was an avid fan of both sports and classic cars and could hardly take his eyes off either. He loved to dance and spend time with friends but most of all, he loved to spoil his family, for he loved them dearly. Larry was a charismatic and personable man who made many wonderful friends, enjoyed many business successes, and loved his family greatly. Memorial services shall be held this Friday at 2pm at Walker Funeral Home, 201 E. 45th Street in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
